I talk a lot about kids now being wired differently. This is also known as neurodiversity— meaning a person whose brain operates differently than the average person. (Keep in mind, normal is all relative! Is anyone really normal? What is the definition of normal and who gets to define it?)
Many kids that fit into this neurodiverse category are diagnosed with Asperger’s, ADD, SPD, OCD, ODD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia and so on. For many of these kids, their senses operate at a higher level which brings many gifts and abilities.
They see and hear things we don’t see, like spirits, auras and energy. They are deeply intuitive and often know information that doesn’t seem possible for them to know. Their brain has to be wired differently than than the average person because the average person doesn’t see or hear what the neurodiverse person does.
While you want to get your child the academic support they need, it is also crucial that you continue to help your child maintain their gifts. The simplest way to do this is listen to them with an open mind and validate their feelings. Society will tell these kids they need to become mainstream when they are really meant to stand out from the crowd, and you can be their guide to help them stand in their authentic truth. ✨
